Built by an Operator, for Operators

We don't just understand AI — we understand what it's like to run a business and need technology that actually works.

Why "Player Piano"?

The name works on three levels, and that's deliberate.

A player piano is an instrument that plays itself. You feed it a roll of music, and it performs — beautifully, reliably, without anyone sitting at the bench. That's the literal metaphor for what we build: systems that run your business operations automatically, freeing you to focus on the work that actually requires a human touch.

But there's a deeper layer. In 1952, Kurt Vonnegut published his first novel, Player Piano — a story about a society where machines have automated almost everything, and the humans left behind are searching for meaning and purpose. It's a cautionary tale, and one we take seriously. We believe AI should amplify people, not replace them. The name is a reminder to build technology that serves humans, not the other way around.

And finally, there's the intersection of music and technology. A player piano is one of the earliest examples of programmable automation — a machine that reads encoded instructions and produces something beautiful. That's what great AI integration looks like: elegant systems that produce real, tangible results from structured inputs.

From Business Owner to AI Builder

Player Piano was founded by Andrew Ayres — an entrepreneur who discovered the transformative power of AI by building it into his own businesses first.

While running a local service business, Andrew started using AI to solve everyday operational headaches: tracking inventory, generating accurate quotes in minutes instead of hours, and eliminating the paperwork that was eating into productive time. Contact us and set up a call to hear our success story with local and online business.

The results were immediate and dramatic. What started as a personal experiment became a realization: most business owners are sitting on enormous untapped potential, and they just need someone to show them what's possible and build it for them.

That's why Player Piano exists. We take the approach that worked — hands-on, practical, built around real business needs — and bring it to companies across Canada. And now, through Player Piano Weekly, we share that knowledge with a broader audience every week.

Our Values

Radical Transparency

Fixed pricing. Clear timelines. Honest assessments. If AI isn't the right answer, we'll tell you — and suggest what is.

Results Over Hype

We don't sell buzzwords. Every recommendation is backed by a business case, and every project is measured by the impact it delivers.

Human-First AI

Technology should amplify people, not replace them. We build AI that makes your team more effective, not obsolete.

How We're Different

We're Operators, Not Just Consultants

We've built and run businesses ourselves. When we recommend a solution, it's because we've either used it ourselves or built something like it for a real company with real constraints.

SMB-First Pricing

We price our services for real businesses — not just Fortune 500 companies. Every engagement starts with a clear, fixed quote so you know exactly what to expect.

We Build What We Recommend

We don't hand you a 100-page strategy document and walk away. We build and deploy the solutions we recommend, and we stick around to make sure they work.

AI-Native Development

We use AI in our own development process — which means faster delivery, lower costs, and solutions that are built on the same cutting-edge tools we're deploying for you.

Part of the Ayres Capital Family

Player Piano is a division of Ayres Capital Enterprises LTD, a Toronto-based holding company with ventures spanning home services, technology, e-commerce, and more. This ecosystem gives us a unique understanding of what different types of businesses need — because we've built and operated them ourselves.

Let's Build Something Together

Whether you're just exploring AI or ready to transform your operations, we're here to help.
